    Hello

Im just wondering since i had my first wire transfer transaction sent today.

Why does my bank give me a different number then my bank card number to do a wire transfer?

Its the account number, but isnt that my card number?

    Thanks

    Tyler

I am not sure about your country but here in Singapore, my bank card/ATM Cards do not share the same number as the bank account. I believe it is some security mechanism to protect the account holder.

You should have an account number when you first open the account.

The number on your card is something the bank has registered in the maestro/cirrus networks and is universally identifiable. Your account number is something for your bank's reference only.

Think of your card number like your email address and your bank account number like your flat number in your building. Anyone in the world can contact your email address because it's on a common network but if someone wants to contact you at home they first have to go through your apartment complex (your bank)

ps. sorry, that was a horrible example, but the best I could come up with at the time :p
