    Well, here's how that works.

While a buyer *could* put their own name in as a ref (e.g., http://<buyer>.merchantid.hop.clickbank.net/) it would require them to already know about clickbank, and that they could make sales, and have an account set up.

Further, to receive their money, they couldn't make the purchase as a one-off, as we all know Clickbank's rule about 5 different sales, with different credit cards, etc etc.

So, for the average buyer, the most they might do is either A) not buy (though, unlikely just based on seeing a hoplink if they really want a product) or B) decide not to click through your link and go google the product, etc, which is also unlikely unless they've already figured out that you're getting paid for the sale and just plain hate you.

The more likely scenario, why many newer affiliate marketers lose out on "commission" stealing, and why "cloaking" in this case doesn't mean diddly is when you're selling make money online, SEO, Adwords, PPC, etc kind of products through clickbank.

The people you're marketing to are already probably well aware of Clickbank and have their own merchant accounts set up where they would buy the product if they're actually interested.

I mean, don't we all do that? Some hot new product comes out, (Day job killer anyone?) and what happens? All us affiliates go buy it through our own hoplink. Even if we did clickthrough with someone else's link, chances are when we go to buy it we're going to be smart enough to go to http://<myownid>.merchid.hop.clickbank.net and override the other affiliate's cookie. So, cloaking here doesn't mean diddly.

Redirection can be helpful to track visitors, sales, etc.. but the bottom line is if someone find out about your product through your page and wants to purchase the product through clickbank, they're going to see the standard CB checkout page somewhere or other, cueing them off to the fact that they could purchase through CB on their own, if they're an affiliate already.

Regardless of the niche, I always use a link masker and my own unique URL.

It's very difficult if you are selling to the Internet Marketing crowd but for others, whether they see your ID or not, doesn't really matter because most likely they do not know about Clickbank (and trust me, there are a lot of them!).

    Hello Telmari,
It is better to cloak your affiliate link so that your visitor may not find your nickname in the link.
you can also cloak links using free short link services online.
