SSL (https) on homepage vs non-ssl for SEO?

I have a website and the entire site is https and not http. The reason it is on my homepage is because the login is on the homepage. When I am building backlinks to my website do i need to specify between http and https even though http traffic is redirected to https? Does this matter?

I'd recommend that you only host the parts of your site on HTTPS that really need it. I'm not sure how Google behaves with HTTPS but I've seen sites in the past that are not indexed at all on Yahoo because they only accept HTTPS connections.

If you must host your entire site on HTTPS then build links to the HTTPS version, not the HTTP redirect.
