I've a client who currently has their SSL certificate through xyz company. Their 1 year contract is over and xyz company is asking for $1000 to renew it. Is that reasonable? are there cheapter options to renew this with other companies such as verisign? instantssl? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Well it depends on what kind of ssl certificate it is. If it's a high level certificate that provides the highest encryption and also provides you with a green verification address bar and a warranty up to $250,000 then i would say that's a far price but if it's a Quick Validation ssl certificate then it's way over priced. As you can get one of those for under $100 So if you mention what kind of certificate it is then we can let you know if it's worth the money.
Why doesn't your client just merely let it expire and go with another SSL provider? Seem's silly to even contemplate this payment?
I'm just trying to help client out since it doesn't seem like client is very technical here. All I know is they deal with medical patients information and they are under hippa laws so it's confidential information. they might need $1000 bucks SSL I guess. it's first time for me researching into this stuff but it is kind of interesting.
