Are SSL certificates worth buying in regards to affecting sales? Specifically will you lose customers because you don't have it or will the effect be neglibile? I think its $39 a website.

When someone is purchasing through amazon, im guessing it would be using SSL already?

Im guessing you wouldn't need to purchase an SSL certificate seperately.

You're correct, the transaction is encoded using Amazon's SSL certificate.

There's no particular reason to get one for your own web site in this case, unless you think it makes your users feel better. Definitely no technical rationale for it.

Agreed. Not unless you are actually manging a credit card transaction... Then it's an absolute requirement.

agree... you're not selling the item, just referring them to it. Amazon handles the processing and order.

Don't see how an SSL certificate would be of use unless you were actually accepting credit cards.

I use an ssl certificate on my site OrderItOnTheWeb.com and I'm an amazon associate. I try to use one on all my sites. For the smallest of fees you can add that extra level of professionalism and security to your site. Also, even if your not handling credit card data, it still doesn't hurt to use ssl when people are registering on your site (using real and or personal information). The $39 is a modest business expense especially if it protects your site visitors and can positively affect your sales. No harm could come from having ssl, plenty harm can come from not having it.

I hope this was a helpful response.

A few weeks ago I got a 5 domain SSL package for $53 from Godaddy. The problem was every technical person had a different concept of how to use and install the SSL and after waisting over 25 hours because of conflicting info from the same company and having it cause some (correctable) problems with my site, I said screw this, it ain't worth it. Now if I had just one site I would use this but in my particular situation it wasn't worth my time, screwing around with this.

Very unfortunate. But in any case the idea of adding certificates to your site was a good one, but you do need some competent technical help if you don't know how to install it yourself. If you don't mind, can I ask what company was helping you with the certificates?
