Hi guys, I been reading a lot about SSL and few of my website are already on SSL. Google recently announced that they will prefer to link SSL website first vs others in the same niche. I didn't notice much difference in SERP between my ssl vs non ssl websites. what you guys think? anyone see any improvement in their SERP using ssl? thanks
Yes, Google announced that if they find 2 sites (1 with SSL and 2nd without) with the same keyword to rank they would prefer website with SSL. This could be slight difference and sometimes could be huge if you don't have much competition.
Yes, Very recently google has announced that going HTTPS — adding a SSL 2048-bit key certificate on your website — will give you a minor ranking boost. Google says this gives websites a small ranking benefit, only counting as a “very lightweight signal” within the overall ranking algorithm. In fact, Google said this carries “less weight than other signals such as high-quality content.” Based on their tests, Google says it has an impact on “fewer than 1% of global queries” but said they “may decide to strengthen” the signal because they want to “encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.” Google also said based on their tests for the past few months, the HTTPS signal showed “positive results” in terms of relevancy and ranking in Google’s search results. Google has also updated Google Webmaster Tools to better handle HTTPS sites and the reporting on them. below is the link for your reference https://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.in/2014/08/https-as-ranking-signal.html cheers
Well thanks both of you for the answer. @na9endra You said high-quality content but you should also consider generating high-quality links which do help a lot in getting rank for money keywords
Sure, SSL will help your SEO very little (websites with SSL are more safe "in theory"), but it's still just one of more than 200 factors to deal with. This value will be almost imperceptible.
