Ss that possible to redirect everything 404 page to home

is that possible to redirect all 404 page to home page, say index.html??

The reason is: I have a website that I update lots of the pages many old pages will not work. And those page are indexed by SE and could bring into some traffic.

Very easy alter the 404 page to redirect to the main page.

Im not an expert but cant you just 301 your 404 pages? to your index

A downside is users may get confused when they end up at the home page, but apart from that, it is fine.

 

It is generally better to have a custom error page than dumping people back to the home page as otherwise people will get confused/ annoyed etc

 

You should make a 404 page where it says that the page is dead or doesnt exist. in that page you can link to home page

 

is that something that we can do in robot.txt
