squidoo and wikipedia are entirely different. like comparing apples and oranges. i don't ever see squidoo outranking wikipedia in the serps, nor coming anywhere enar their numbers in traffic.

i have several squidoo lenses top 100'd for different categories right now, and the traffic is nowhere near what i originally expected when i first began dabbling in squidoo article submissions. marketing squidoo can be a tricky game, but it is good for building backlinks and with a once you've learned a few different tricks for making the most of that traffic it can be a worthwhile time investment.

the difference is that you'll never have an outright marketing attempt survive on wikipedia. whereas on squidoo, your entire article can be one big sales copy if you so choose it to be...

I think just the opposite. I think free platforms like Squidoo, Hub Pages, and Blogger will eventually be so bogged down with self promoting spam pages, gibberish content, and misinformation that they will eventually lose all credibility and fall from grace.

Wiki is much better for finding information although I do dislike the editors.

hasn't kept people from watching television yet.
(damn i wish this forum had the 2cents smiley, heh)

the viewers aren't gonna leave, and they are going to continue to pull new viewers as they expand and continue to get more and more pages indexed in the serps. article submission sites like HubPages and Squidoo aren't going anywhere and now we have the interesting addition of http://www.bukisa.com and their profit sharing model. people will continue to submit articles to these sources, they will continue to gain authority, and they will continue to grow stronger in the serps.

use them all to your advantage.

Good point, and the web is an advertising medium now, just like T.V. and Radio, so it does stand to reason that it will just continue down that trail, so I stand corrected.

I should just subcome to the the fact that 90% of what is on the web is just there to sell me something, just like T.V. and Radio. (Just like 90% of what I do on the web:D).
But the OP is way off, the 2 platforms are completely different, one will not beat the other, and Squidoo will certainly not become a source of relable information...that's just crazy talk.

Squidoo has PR 6 while Wikipedia has PR 9. Masking? They may no money through ads. At all. And they have like 20-30 workers. And hundreds of servers, that regularly need to be repaired. It costs tens of millions a year to run that kind of operation with no profit. So you're saying that having others perfect your work is an evil thing? Right.

Also, you wrote Squidoo twice for the PR comparison...

I have to agree with the others that said it, Squidoo and Wikipedia are 2 very different things. There's not really anything to beat, I don't really see them as direct competing with each other.

I like Squidoo but wiki is to big and his seen as one of the biggest authority site in google eyes. Squidoo is also an authority site but not to the same level as wiki.

I don't see Squidoo as an authority site at all. I view it in the way as Hub Pages. Anyone can put anything up..doesn't make it true or even accurate. There is a lot of spam, and duplicate content on Squidoo.

Blogger is already like that. Squidoo needs to tighten things up. And HubPages make an incredible effort to combat not just spam, but also junk.
