I have created a Squidoo lens on website design with links back to our own website design, Bury St Edmunds site. I can now think of ways to improve it but would like to know: for SEO purposes (for our own website design, Bury St Edmunds site), is it better to modify an existing Squidoo lens and really promote it to high pr or take the bulk of the material from this lens and turn it into an article? Or should I take the bulk of this lens and turn it into a better page on digg etc? Also, is it legal / permissible to take the large gist of an existing lens (my own) and submit it as an article (my own) to an article directory?
I'd say article directories as well as you can get more links if other publishers use your content. However for a more varied link profile, you should get links from everywhere and that includes squidoo.
Many thanks - can anyone tell me which is the best article directory to aim for? Will the fact that the article I want to write is fairly similar to my Squidoo lens prevent it being published?
Squidoo lens is having a higher chance of PageRank . Here we can put links inside the lens . But in article directories , signature could only be used under the article footer . So seo wise and traffic wise , Squidoo is better than article directory promotion .
the best thing to do is spin your article., then you can send it to both article directories and squidoo
Even though Squidoo lenses are do-follow, articles in trusted article directory are much worthy than Squidoo lenses.
while article submission can help you, it is wise not to take any content from your current lens to turn into article. use unique content by writing a new article and then submit to few top hand picked directories which will give you better result.
Many thanks to you all for your info. I think I will keep my Squidoo article but try to write something that is sufficiently different for it to be accepted as an article. Two final questions: when creating an article, do you create it in a Word document or equivalent - or do you have to create it in the software supplied by the article directory? can you put photos into an article?
as for my experience doing SEO, both Squidoo and Article submission will help in building rank for your website.
I'd consider taking the article, spinning or rewriting it, and then submitting to both Squidoo and article directories. That will get you the most bang for your buck. In terms of software, I don't like writing in Word as it throws in Word mark-up tags that will screw up the formating . I prefer a free text program called Jarte. It has all the features I need, and you can't beat the price.
Articles are better, but then again, a squidoo lens you can get online instantly and no waiting around for some third party to be approving your work.
I'd recommend both, I guess the advantages of submitting articles is in the "potential" amount of backlinks you CAN pick up (whether through publishing or via article directory submission), whereas Squidoo lens requires you to do the entire link building yourself. Squidoo lens is excellent for picking up PR. Article Submissions is excellent for traffic generation.
I agree that you should do both squidoo lenses and article submissions. Every good link build strategy has plenty of variety. You want to get links from as many different sources as possible. I write articles with MS Word, but you do have to go through the extra step of removing the mark-up tags as mentioned above. Do not write the article in the text box on the article directories. If you do this, you lose the benefits of spell check and grammar check. You also run the risk of losing the article if the article directory automatically logs you out.
do squidoo, backlink it with ezine, hubs and other web2.0 ! and also do several article submission! it is way too good
Ask yourself this very simple question How much value is there to Google of the same article on 100 article directories..... Answer The same value as your site dumped in 5000 free directories little to none....... Most people who say to use article directories have luck ranking for long tail keywords.. Article directories wont help for competitive keywords with competition over 1,000,000
