I had 132 lenses on squidoo, One thing I had noticed in last 3-4 Days my squidoo traffic has dropped almost by 70%. I re-checked with some another squidoo members stats by http://www.squidaholic.com/ and found similar things happening. I found 3 major reasons of happening this. 1) Google algo has been changed and will be fixed in some time. (Which I had noticed for years ) 2) Due to tons of affiliate pages on squidoo, google had flagged a red alarm against it and eventually the authority score is going down. 3) An economy downfall. (But I don’t see this reason very rational because people usually don’t stop surfing they stop buying.) Do you guys have similar experience? P.S. Lot of clickbank affiliates are using squidoo, so I had placed this tread in clickbank forum If mods found this is misplaced I request them to move it to appropriate one.
I do have couple of sites but traffics is not very huge to count on it. At clickbank forum there are tons of people using squidoo for promotion but don't see many here..
Actually, it's reason number 4: there was a bug this week with the Squidoo servers, causing them to stop counting visits. The chief engineer is on the case, read his forum post for details. This bug is also affecting the data at www.Squidaholic.com, so disregard that. Looking at my own traffic stats for all my lenses, the number of visits has been steady all week. No reason to worry.
My lenses have always been tough to rank for in Google. Yahoo seems to love them and I've got a few top spots there. I'm not sure if there is any value in trying to get a lens ranked high in Google. For all that effort, you could have your own site on page one.
Google will love Squidoo forever. Affiliates can create as many lenses as they want, but the "normal" lenses created by regular people will still outweight the crappy stuff.
Well, don't forget that in June 2007 Squidoo was slammed by a lot of porn spammers creating lenses and Google completely deindexed Squidoo for a while! They fixed the probably pretty quickly and Squidoo was back up again, but don't ever assume that a third party site is going to remain indexed. Better off to always focus on your own sites and traffic and not put a huge amount of energy into Squidoo - just build up your lens so it places for your keywords and gives nice links back to your main site and move on. Well that is a good advice dangregory, plan to go ahead for my owm sites. Indeed, I noticed a drop in views, sometimes I had clicks without any views showing. Now they seem to have a problem with their spambot.
Noticed that as well. One of my lenses was #1 in SEO/Marketing just a week ago! ... and now it's not even in the top 10
Google's love affair w/ websites is a rotating door. Remember - don't concentrate on any one website, concentrate on the rotating door. Be constantly aware of the websites google is courting at any given moment. Could be HubPages, ezinearticles, craigslist, ebay, squidoo, youtube, livevideo, or any number of new sites hitting the market every day. Be pro-active. If you notice a website being courted by google for certain key-words, start hitting that website w/ other keywords
Venrooy is right. Look for trends in the kinds of sites Google is loving on. For example, Digg and Propeller are great for getting a 1-2 day top 10 spot in the rankings because they are so fresh, but they drop like flies. EZA and Squidoo have a ton of authority so you can piggy back on that to get some long tail stuff to stick. Then again, Google will do the dance every once in a while just to shake things up. I've seen it take one of my sites to like #4 then #2, then completely gone, then 2 weeks later #7 for a week or two, then gone again. Google is just too weird for its own good sometimes.
I am using hubpages, enzines but the success which I had got with squidoo was far better, I do believe in diversifying things lets see how it goes. Thanks for your suggestion.
