Hi all... Recently I just came to know about how marketers are grabbing up Squidoo lenses to dominate the particular niche. Just like domainers who own generic domain names i.e. scubadiving.com, stocktrading.com, etc. There is a good similarity of these Squidoo lenses with domains, IMHO. For example, somebody who owns the lens squidoo.com/forextrading or other generics such as "affiliatemarketing" or "onlinemarketing" can reap in huge profits because of SEO advantages, etc. Anybody here find this to be true and have already filled up their lens portfolio with huge generics?
Not at all, no where NEAR generic domain names. I think it would be somewhat beneficial to grab up a generic squidoo name, but not really that important. Squidoo is just going to be another name in the future full of other Squidoo copycat sites. Look at what happened to Digg.
I totally disagree. Squidoo got the Google slap once upon a time (and has since come back), but quality, optimized lenses are ALWAYS part of SERPS. I have a number of lenses that come up on the first and second pages of Google for their keywords and some that are PR3 - this is WITHOUT promotion. So, if you have quality lenses that you ARE promoting, you can compete on the domain horizon and rack up some great Google PR to boot - that's the point in Squidoo allowing you to choose your own url. Squidoo lenses aren't as powerful as domains, but they are a GREAT alternative, especially when the domains you want are already taken.
Before you start worrying about all these sqweeedoo, hubadoopages, taking a digger, etc.....you should ensure your vessel is fit for running. What the hell am I talking about? It's the age-old adage dating back to the Wright Bro.s (I am from the Aviation Biz originally BTW [and now Perry Marshall is pimping this adage]) Squidoo, Blogger, Wordpress, Digg, Myspace, Adwords, etc... is all meaningless unless you have a sound airframe to support it. Picture this, Wilbur & Orville, unlike everyone else, decide to make the worlds most kick-ass glider, then only later decide to retro-fit it with an engine. Whereas everyone else boasted the biggest, most efficient engine known to man and tried to slap it on a sub-par aircraft. What happens when the airframe is built out of Balsawood? That big-ass powerful engine tears the airframe apart and you are left charred beyond recognition. REWIND: Picture a crappy ass website with a .0000000001 Conversion rate? How much traffic are u gonna need to succeed?....I think you get it....at least 15 beers deep I got it any way...toots!
Internet marketers have been using squidoo to get a good ranking on google for years. Squidoo pages are very powerful and youcan easily reach the 1st position of google for a certain keyword with them. The same goes for hubpages....
Come to think of it, I don't see many Squidoo pages in Google when I search for stuffs. Is it true that there are too many Squidoo clones around that actually dilute the strength of Squidoo in Google's ranking?
I think short and keyword rich url play a part too but you will need to make sure that your lens is properly optimized with your targeted keywords in order to enjoy better rankings with your Squidoo lenses.
