I had about 15 lenses, 4 of which were pretty high in rankings and PR. Granted some were getting no traffic and were just basically sat there. The traffic to the top one was quite good, I'd say over a thousand hits per week. My best one had no affiliate link in it was just directing traffic to a site. Now I understand Squidoo has been cutting down on affiliates etc. I realized that I did have some stale crappy lenses I had experimented with just sat about but my tops ones were pulling in good traffic. To cut a long story short Squidoo E-Mailed me saying that they were all disabled. Realizing I had a few lenses which they may not be happy with I sent a message back stating that if its certain lenses that are causing problems I would simply delete but at least keep my best one. Anyway I heard nothing back from my mail and now they are all gone! I had my best one since about 2007. To be honest though half I did got no traffic at all. I was making a small amount from the split Adsense with them, around about $10 - $20 a month however this was from my best lens mainly. Now me or Squidoo are getting nothing, as they have deleted them, Lol. I just thought they could of at least told me the exact problem and replied to my question, not sure if anyone else has had problems..
They are trying to keep the high quality stuff in as it affects their reputation. And it is their web property so what they say goes. Ultimately, it will make them a better community. Ezine Articles is very strict but they only have top quality content and it shows in their Google ranking. I suspect that Squiddo wants the same. It will even out.
Squidoo was a powerful domain 2-3 years back and all new pages used to rank well easily if written well and optimized good. But spammers started to ruin Squidoo with all kinds of spammy lenses. Now they have taken a strong step to clean the system.
I would say dont waste your time with Squidoo. Nowadays their lens are not even ranking high. Better work on your own website, it will never let you down.
Focus on your own page or site or blogs. Post more new articles, write well and optimized good, then it will bring positive result for you.
I just started a Squidoo Lens. Maybe I should think twice about what I have gotten into. Any advice for Wordpress or Blogger?
I know there are a lot of assistants out there who specialize in creating lenses -- wondering about outsourcing it - Also, what do you guys know about the others such as weebly and hubpages?
It is not a bad thing that they are cleaning up spam, but it is also not good that they deleted ALL of your lenses rather than just the spammy ones
So squidoo goes out of the window as a backlink source. Where are you all going to get backlinks from now?
Not a fan of squidoo. It ranks well in google but there is so many distractions on the page to the reader when you actually get them to your lens. Just create a back up of your articles and rebuild lenses for them again
There is nothing better than optimizing your own website for the search engines. Every other avenue which may include social sites or bookmarking should only be seen as a way of either getting in some money or just extra promotion. Don't rely on it, because the day the site closes down is the day you are dead in the water. Sure the site may not close down anytime soon, but it is easier to rely on your own website than on other sites. Sites change their structure and rules all the time but your own is yours to play with and not subjected to any ridiculous rules. So keep that in mind.
wordpress, livejournal, blogger get indexed within a couple of minutes to an hour. while squidoo, you still have to work your butt just to get it indexed. which is not cool.
Squidoo had become a guest house for spammers. I like it. I am sure Google has a hand in this too. When Google notice that a site is being abused to post spam links, they inform the owners to rectify it. If they don't, then that domain will not have strength with them(Google) anymore. Recently squidoo was really nothing. But I Hope with this reform, things will be better again.
The thing to keep in mind with Squidoo - its not your site. At anytime they can close your "lenses" and there is nothing you can do about it. You could spend countless hours building your pages and it could all be wiped out in a matter of seconds. Instead of building Squidoo pages, put that time into your own site.
Last time back in the 2003, 04, they are more hot, and your lens can get to the top of google easily, but it is not the case now. Google seems to devalue them alot.
I think squidoo is still a strong point of interest for anyone who's looking for a good backlink, not worth giving up on just yet.
