Squidoo - how helpful is it for SEO?

I want to do a Squidoo lens for my company - can anyone tell me how helpful this is for SEO purposes and highly google ranks this kind of link?

Also do I need to write directly about my company? Can come at it from a more imaginative angle - is that less or more beneficial?

It can give you good back link and little traffic nothing else !!

 

Its good. I have built over 100 squidoo lenses and though they don't rank that well as they used to be, they can still be a good source of traffic. I have written a half post about it on my blog (I am finishing the post and it should get publish in few hours) so you may like to get your answers there.

Feel free to ask me any doubts though.

As far as your questions are concerned,
1. Don't expect your lens to rank very high or immediately. The law of backlinks also applies to squidoo lenses.
2. ya you can write about your company but don't make it a sales/promotional lens. There is enough spam already there that we don't want anything more.
3. Yes, being imaginative works great on squidoo. use the addons to the fullest and make it a great lens.

I do have a squidoo account and it helps to drive traffic to my site..

 

Make your lens, get some articles linked to it, ping it, bookmark it, it's all traffic funnel stuff. I did a simple lens about a mobile phone and a couple of articles on EzineArticles and I'm getting decent traffic and I have a PR1 for it, plus traffic filters from there to my website. I've hardly touched the lens since I made it, but I still get traffic..

 

It can give your back link, and traffic. However the quality of back link is determine by the quality of your Squidoo page. If it is new, no back link from any where, poor content, it wont do any good. You can do more marketing at your squidoo because squidoo is not a company. If I have a company website I will promote it carefully, because I don't want to ruin the brand of the company.

 

Squidoo is an excellent platform for driving traffic to a site. Coming at it from an imaginative angle is a great idea. Use original content (that you have not published elsewhere on the web) that is beneficial to your visitors. This will bring you highly targeted search engine traffic which is more likely to lead to sales than a ton of traffic that is just surfing through.

You could even try building three or four lenses, with each one focussing on a different topic that is related to your business.

By the way, let me break some of the myths which people have said here -
1. Massive no. of lenses and getting lot of links won't help you much.
2. You don't get massive traffic

just until few months ago, squidoo pages would get ranked high on search engines. lot of people cried out loud saying its not fair and google also figured that out themself therefore lenses dont get any special treatment from google by default. however, it is still a powerful site to get traffic, backlink, and PR juice. over time, squidoo lenses climb higher in PR sending you pr juice and backlink to your site. you can also use the lens to make money from affiliate program.

A Squidoo site can get great traffic if you know how to setup a network correctly, and can use other web 2.0 sites linking to it correctly.

And with dofollow links, it's not a lot short of the good ol' days (before the infamous squidoo slap inflicted by google) in passing on link power, and ranking well. Close, but no banana.

Of course the biggest problem is, when you get a heap of traffic to a lense, squidoo put so many exit points outside of your control on your lense, that you end up losing a lot of that traffic.

Definitely should be part of your web 2.0 "arsenal" in my opinion...

For sure it's helpful to help serp ranking of your company esp from high authority site like Squidoo.
But you need a lot more back link from other marketing promotion you do to get your company website ranking is get higher in SE.
Crete Squidoo, Hubpages, other Web2.0 sites, bookmarking, article marketing and a lot more.
Basically any legal way to get backlink gradually to your website is helpful.
Just make sure don't use black hat method.
