I've been thinking about Squidoo and HubPages, and really they don't seam worthwhile to me, the money you can make is minimal, unless you have lots of really good lenses/pages, so I was thinking, what would a Squidoo clone have to do to make it more worthwhile? And what would they need to have to get you to make the switch?

If I understand you correctly, you want to know what should a site offer to be better than Squidoo or Hubpages, and get people who are active on these two sites to switch to a "clone"? First off, good luck on competing with these two sites and their thousands of users. Secondly, some people have the impression that you can only make money with Adsense on Squidoo. If you can write reviews and provide valuable content on an ordinary website or blog and make money through people clicking on affiliate links, then you can make that money on Squidoo as well. Hubpages is slightly more complicated, but you can funnel plenty of traffic to your own sites from there as well. So, what exactly do you mean with "what would a Squidoo clone have to do to make it more worthwhile"?

The reason why I prefer Squidoo is more freedom with affiliate links, and less restrictions and rules on what your pages should look like. So if Hubpages want to be more appealing, they should provide more creative/commercial freedom. The flip side of Squidoo's approach is that it also makes it the site of choice for spammers and people providing zero value (recent changes did make this less of a problem, though).

I would say the ability for users to make more money. The challenge for these sites is to keep spam to a minimum, attract quality writers, and reward for good content.
