Squatting on twitter...yes, I have read the policy on Twitter but it's not clear. There is a squatter on our Company name. We do not currently have a trademark but are thinking of getting one. In that case, if we got our company name trademarked, would we be able to get the username back (after the fact)?
Assuming you're actually in the US then you'd be best to check with your lawyer. Under the principals of English Common Law (the basis of NZ law) the timing would be all important - in which case you wouldn't be able to get the username. I'm curious that you say you want to get it "back". How did you lose control of the username?
We never had it on Twitter...we wanted to have a twitter acct for company. When we went to sign up, there's some guy who already has it saying "if you wanna purchase it....blah blah"
Go for a name aligned to your product that will make you look hip. If your company is ABC then try and get @abcexperts or @abcgurus Good on the guy who got it for identifying that twitter is a useful platform (to some) and picking up handles that might have value. Shame on your marketing department for not going out and snapping up the usernames on new, influential platforms. It's not as if they cost anything!
