Well I needed a VPS so I tried them out and what I got was an extreeeeeeemely slow server. I went through and tried to optimize it and it still runs slow. Well I did a whois to see how many sites are actually on this server and it came back with 376604 websites. You can see that here http://www.whois.sc/foyz.com Now do you think this is right? Could this be a good reason why it is so slow? For $37 a month I really didnt expect to share the server with that many people when with some shared hosting servers I share with as little as 23 websites. Any help would be appreciated on what I should do, or if this could be the problem.
Is that a custom script? Are there indices in the right places in the DB? Looks like the site responds quickly but certain queries are slow.
BTW, the # of sites hosted must be incorrect. My shared server account at Spry only shows 459 other sites on whois.sc. I'd write to support and see what they say is causing the slowness... sorry if the recommendation turns out poorly, but my shared account is quick with mySQL driven pages.
Aaron, it doesn't look like they have you on a VPS. It's not a VPS if you are sharing an IP address with everyone else on the server. You should have your own block of IPs to work with that are not shared with other sites. Dump Spry and try ServInt. For a few bucks more you will see a big difference.
Well there was some work on the script to make it run faster and I also got an email from Spry yesterday saying they are going to install some new hardware on my server due to other users that are on the server using up tons of resources. So hopefully it will get even better. But its running a little faster now.
You may be looking at cached data on whois.sc I had a supposedly dedicated IP with a VPS from spry, Whois.sc showed up that it had 3 other websites on it. I registered for a free user, checked the domains, and saw that those domains no longer were in use (they were owned by someone, but no longer in use)
