I have many e-commerce clients selling diff products(grocery, jewelary, herbal products, CD/dvd) etc. I never had trouble marketing these sites. I do read these forums and articles and they help me. Now this new client who is selling baseball bat/ball, jerseys etc. we are having lots of problem. We started with SEO and PPC, but no success at all. Most of the keyword are expensive and customer dont buy them also. I know these are young people who would browse a lot, but it will cost my clients. I'm looking for ideas now// anyone has ideas what else I can do?
You don't need to do anything different than with anyother e-commerce site. 1) choose your keywords (likely in the 100's) 2) Optimize your sales pages for those keywords 3) lots of links to homepage 4) plenty of deep links direct to the optimized sales pages 5) as per normal links from other sports related sites. 6) PPC to bring in traffic whilst waiting for good SERPs. If your client isn't willing to pay for advertising (ie PPC) then they're going to have to be patient and wait for the natural SERPs - trying to run any selling business without allocating considerable advertising monies is going to be a hard slog. Sport keywords are generally reasonably competitive so you need a lot of promotion/links to achieve results.
Thanks for your feedback, I'm doing most of them already. Please let me know about 4, how do I do that?
Write content. I recently read a large debate over the different types of baseball bats that the pros are using to hit homers. The different type of wood is, also, a matter of debate over whether that's the cause of the increase in bats breaking. If you have articles like that people will link to them giving you deep links. #4 means haveing a page like home/products/baseballbats.html and having people link to those instead of just your home page. This helps you get more of you key words higher in the SEs.
