I'm not sure if you remember me from a couple of months ago, but I was requesting Sponsorship for a Quidditch Game (you can see the thread here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=747658&highlight=quidditch ) Well we're at it again! The One Moment Society holding another charitable Quidditch tournament on October 19th, from 12-3 - hopefully this time we won't get snowed in, and it'll be a little warmer. All proceeds raised from the event will go towards helping children with AIDS and HIV, for our last year we donated our accumulated funds to a very worth charity called Rising Fountains ( www.risingfountains.org ). We're currently in communications with them to figure out the best project (most in line with our goal) to direct our funds to. This Quidditch Tournament is a charitable event help by the One Moment Society of Dalhousie University, Halifax Nova Scotia. My name is Jillian, I'm a third year Biology Co-Op + Neuroscience student, and run this society along with a group of executive and student volunteers. Check out more about our charity here: www.one-moment.org I Am approaching the good people at DigitalPoint Requesting Sponsorship! Running the game requires some moolah - we're booking the field for three hours ($90), purchasing equipment for the game (we have a lot left over from the last tournament though, so this will not cause that large a strain), and advertising around campus (of 16,000 students) and the wider Halifax area. Last March, with the help from DigitalPoint (contributions totaling $116) we were basically able to pay off the expenses for running the game. We went on to make more than $300 for charity! So here's how it goes - if you can offer anything, it would be greatly appreciated! Monetary donations will go towards paying off game expenses, with leftovers going towards charity. If there are services/websites/etc. that you'd like to offer, you can auction that off in DP (or elsewhere) and donate the funds. Little $2-5 donations DO add up and are much appreciated as well! Here's what we're prepared to offer: $25 donation - will get you a link on our Sponsors page ( http://one-moment.org/sponsors/ ) for a minimum of one year. While our site does not get much traffic, we are linked to from an academic institution (Dalhousie here: http://dalnews.dal.ca/2008/01/24/quidditch.html and mentioned here: http://dalnews.dal.ca/2008/03/26/quidditch.html ). Hopefully this translates into some PR juice for you. * $75 donation - Will also get a link on our Sponsors page, as well as a mention during the game (announced through bullhorns by the commentators), and your logo and website displayed on our print and advertising materials (remember our campus has around 16,000 students!) So to reiterate, ANY donations (even $1.00, $2.00) would be so sweet, anything over $25 will get you a link on our page. If you're feeling generous, for $75 we'll mention your website on our page, during the game (it will be commentated), and in our advertising materials. Please donate by Paypal either through the website (the blue Donate! button) or through Okay, Cool. But ... Quidditch? yes we know what you're thinking - how do Muggles play Quidditch? We modeled our game after the original Muggle Quidditch, developed by Alex Benepe, the found of the Intercollegiate Quidditch Association. If you are interested, give me a pm and I'll send you a copy of the rulebook. Students are basically dressed up as wizards, mounted on brooms, and assume regular Quid positions (Chasers, Beaters, Keepers, and Seekers). Chasers try to get a Quaffle (volleyball) through a goal (hula hoops) to score. Beaters prevent this by hitting them with bludgers (dodgeballs). The Seekers are busy chasing after the Golden Snitch (attached to a Snitch Runner, who has the run of the campus). Check out footage from our last match here: http://one-moment.org/muggles-discover-quidditch-wizards-puzzled/ And our photo album as well: http://one-moment.org/photos/muggle-quidditch/ Let me know if you have any questions ALSO Dalhousie University is about to launch an advertising campaign which features the One Moment society and our last Quidditch tournament. They are planning to release this sometime in October, however if anyone is interested I can send them a link to the short documentary/video via pm (I don't want to splash it across the world wide web before they launch the campaign). *Please note, though this should be obvious, we cannot list sites that promote hate, porn, adult, or illegal content.
Any interest in this? We're probably going to start designing the advertising posters in about a week and a half (I'm swamped with midterms at the beginning!) so if you were interested in appearing on those let me know! Also around that time I will probably be volunteering my graphic design skills ( www.flammula.com ) for a period of time with 100% of the profit going to the cause. That will be in about two weeks. Make sure that if you're interested you request the short documentary video - it's a short and sweet clip that covers what our society is about as well as our last Quidditch event pretty well
