Sponsoring blog themes for links?

I have been looking at buying links for my sites, but I was wondering is it worth sponsoring a good wordpress theme that could potentially get me thousands of links for a relatively low price?

Granted they wont all necessarily be in my niche (proxies) but it could work.

Do you think it will be a good idea for me to purchase a sponsor link on a wordpress theme to my proxy listing site?

Personally I don't think I would pursue such advertising. The main reason is that all of those links would have the exact same link anchor text. If that theme does well you may suddenly have thousands of links with the same text. There is a good chance that you might get penalized for link spam for that keyword. If you do pursue it, make sure you also work at getting links with different anchor text at the same time.

 

I hadnt thought about that. that could b potentially lethal for my SERPs, I, like you, will now not pursue this.

not sure how it works anymore, used to be very effective link building campaign for a while but too many people got into this. first, if you sponsor themes you need to sponsor a lot of themes to get SOME backlinks. i myself tested by sponsoring 3 themes about 7-8 months ago and yet to see a single backlink to my site. most people just remove th efooter links and others keep changing themes for their blog. second, you dont want to have too many footer backlinks with same anchor text. if you want to pursure this method, then sponsor many themes and each with different anchor text

 

It seems that there is too much people sponsoring wordpress themes in these days. Maybe is good time to try something else where is not so big competition. Some CMS which is not so popular but was not so many themes made for it.

If will only work if many people would be using it. there are lots of free of themes out there so don't expect a lot of links.

 

I also don't think that it is a good idea to sponsor wordpress theme to get backlinks. If you will get some backlink that too will be from same anchor.

 

if you have the skillset, instead of sponsoring, I would recommend building a custom theme and then offering it free to a limited number of people 500 or so... Then promote the offer in your related field / blogs / forums etc... that will allow you to get links, with limited # of duplicate anchor text.

If it works, build another theme and repeat.
