Split the Sites for Sale forum!

I like buying sites, but the sites for sale forum here is useless to me. There are hundreds of posts a day, and most of the sites are complete junk.

It would be useful to have a section dedicated to well established sites, maybe only sites that are over a year old? This would help make the section much more useful to me.

Are you volunteering to police every thread that is posted that it's not "junk"? :)

That is true, it will be too much work for mods, otherwise its a great suggestion.

DP has a point. With all the users here, it would take a couple of people to approve the sites. But it is a good idea.

Suggestion is good but very very difficult to handle for mods as each time someone report post for not aged site (established site), mods needs to check details about site which is not easy task.

Buyer needs to check everything before buying (site is established or not) thats what currently they are doing.

    DON.

Understandable, however it could be another metric, and steep infractions could be issued for violators.

There would still be your less-than-one-year-old forum for all the spammy recycled garbage sites a lot of sellers are flooding the place with.

I would be willing to do some moderating on the forum, and I am sure that anyone else who checks for quality established sites each day could easily do some moderating while looking through the new listings each day.

Quality and established don't necessarily go hand in hand. I've sold "quality" sites that were new here for a good bit because people are willing to pay a premium for my unique content. They weren't established for a long period, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the site. At the same time, you can have sites sitting for years that are supposedly established, but that are complete and utter crap.

So who would decide what "quality" is? Should 1 year old garbage be sold alongside thriving sites? Should a 6 month old quality site in a booming new niche be turned away from the section with serious buyers just because someone else doesn't consider it established enough? Would established site owners also have to verify traffic? Income? Despite the fact that most buyers here look for those things, they're far from the only indicators of quality websites.

It's too subjective for anyone to police, and it would require members to share information they may have legitimate reasons for keeping private. It's also really none of our business as staff here what those site details are. It's all a matter for prospective buyers to research independently like in any other transaction here - we don't interfere with private business issues.

If we set up a rule / forum like that, what's next? I could then argue that we should have a special forum for only writers with a year or more of experience, or only at higher price ranges just because the pros here are sick of the garbage offers. It would be the same thing - we'd be discriminating based on subjective "value." Then designers would want the same. So would domainers. And programmers. And SEO folks. And other Internet marketers.... There's a low end in every section of BST. It's just the reality of a free marketplace.

You do make an excellent point. I guess you can only expect so much out of a "Free" marketplace.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am also sick of seeing the utter crap sites getting sold sometimes for more then well established sites with paid scripts and members.

so yep lets have a premium sites area heck charge a fee for the premium area that'll get rid of the time wasters.

I gave up article writing services on dp simply because I wasn't going to slave for peanuts so got my vote there to...
