SPLIT TESTING - How many ads to test? How many impressions? Trademark rules?

A couple questions about split testing:

    1) Is there any ideal number of ads to split test at one time in one ad group? I've heard that just 2 at a time is best, and then when you start to see a trend, delete the worse one and create a new one to try to beat the better one. Is there any reason not to run 10 at once and accumulate data on all of them at once? 10 at once strikes me as more efficient - at least I won't have to go in and make changes as often. Agree? Disagree?

    2)
How many impressions do you give an ad before you feel confident you can see a trend in terms of CTR?

    ...and a couple about trademarks:

From reading the information on the Adwords website, I under the policy about bidding on trademarked names to basically be: “Go ahead, but do so at your own risk – the trademark owner could get you in trouble.”
    1) Do you have any suggestions regarding trademarks?
    2) What about typos on trademarks?

    Thanks!

    1) Unless you are getting very large volumes of traffic, I'd suggest testing two alternatives at a time. If you run ten at once, it'll take forever to get significant results.

    2) That depends on how different the clickthrough rates are. I'd suggest using http://splittester.com/ to tell you when you've reached a significant difference.

    1) Bidding on other people's trademarks is pointless in some cases, and essential in others. If somebody's looking for a specific company, your clickthrough rate will be poor, as will your quality score.

On the other hand, we have an account for a second hand car dealer, who bids on terms like 'second hand fords'. Ford is a trademark, but is allowed. But Renault have stopped people from bidding on their name, even in this context.

If you think it'll be worthwhile, try it. The worst that will happen is that Google will reject your keywords or advert.

    2) Again, if you think it's worthwhile, try it...
