What do you guys think about splash pages for websites? You know, the ones that have a sign saying "skip intro". I am particularly looking for you opinions in regard to commercial websites. Are there successful websites whose credibility is enhanced by splash pages? Are there rules of thumb or guidelines?
I pretty much hate them except on a few occasions such as a new movie site or some game site - where flashy intro fits the genre.
I pretty much hate them too, to the point that I sometimes leave a site with a splash page immediately. But I'm not everybody and maybe some people like them? My friend has a solid real estate website with a PR3 and a splash page. I'm wondering if he is hurting or helping his site?
The splash page is attractive and professionally done, but I question if it ads any value to the website which is also well done.
I hate them, and it just slow downs the user finding his/hers information. Its even worse when is some flash page which also slows down the site.
Ya, it is a flash page. I don't know why anybody would put up an unnecessary barrier between a potential client and the information they are looking for. Again are there any successful commercial websites that use splash screen?
