I have a splash page on my website which redirects to my vBulletin forum, the site gets a good amount of traffic and performs well on specific keywords but am I harming my search results by having a splash page in the root of my site which redirects? the url is thesnookerforum.com
OK so ideally I would have no redirect and put the vBulletin in the root of the site!! would that be better? and if I done that how would that effect my current rankings?
I'd never use a splash page for any type of website. Redirect it to your main site. Why? The more pages you have available, the better you're off with SEO. http://goo.gl/uSKkK
A splash page isn't terrible, but it is very hard indeed to search engine optimize. What is your purpose for the splash page? Is it truly needed? If I were you, these are the questions I would be asking myself to evaluate whether it is truly needed.
Splash Pages are only good as landing pages for running PPC Programs to achieve better quality scores, resulting in cheaper cost per clicks
