Hey Guys: I had a static site and am now adding daily content and rotating it on the home. I am submitting a new sitemap to Google everyday and pinging it. The spider still comes around once a week. Any clues as to how to make it go to the site everyday? Thanks.
There are many factors that affect this, but most centrally, your crawl rate and depth of crawling are proportional to your PR (Google has just recently admitted this officially). Build some good links, raise your PR, and your crawl rate will improve. This is the one most important thing. Additionally, you can tweak the crawl rate setting manually in you Webmaster Tools. Set it to max. This may improve your crawling somewhat, though don't expect a dramatic increase. Sitemaps generally support such attributes as <changefreq> and <priority>. Their use may influence the crawl rate, although the impact is likely to be minor. I hope this helps!
Just be consistent with your posting, the spider will get used to your frequency and crawl more frequently
PhilipSEO has well said already. I would like to add a little more. You do not have to submit new sitemap nor do pinging daily neither. - Submit sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools once is enough. Google will come and cache the new updated sitemap automatically. - If you are using Wordpress as Blog then it has an automate ping enabled already. The ping from outside would be a waste anyway.
You are already did the first part, and you still need to work out on link building, try to get some strong quality link. Then, the spider will like to visit your site
Just going add good content and put some backlinks. You can get the Google spider come to your website more often.
