Yesterday I did a post on the 2008 Xfactor winner "Alexandra Burke". I accidentally spelt her name wrong (Alexander). My visitors doubled over night, because it would seem there are plenty others who are poor spellers like me. I've heard of this method before, purposefully spelling popular keywords wrong, but mine was a genuine mistake. Can there be any penalties for this?
I dont know how this system works exactly, but google nowadays tends to correct the spelling error to the more popular term. at least I have noticed once in a while. And when I search for something and misspell something and see that there is did you mean "keyword" link available then I even dont look at the first site, because this must be full of shit when they typed the "keyword" which I am looking info about wrong. my idea at least
I don't think that Google will penalize a site for a misspelling or two. If it did, DP would really be hurting! With most search engines having a "Did you mean ... ?" feature, I think that misspellings will generally not be worth much, but I know from my own searches that when I do misspell a search term, websites with the misspelled version still appear at the top of the search results. So there is probably some benefit from a search perspective. Of course, your readers who know how to spell will wonder about the quality of your site if you don't catch the misspellings, so you need to weigh that if you intentionally misspell a word.
Yeah, back in the day you could get a ton of traffic by misspelling keywords. The search engines are better at matching misspellings with it's actual spelling. I could definitely see there being a penalty for abusive use of misspellings. How much value would a page riddled with misspellings really contain?
Its a very old method not very effective these days specially with high comp. keywords but still works with some niches. No penalty whatsoever. I still have one of my website on page 1 for misspelled keywords which makes me 3 figure income every month. Tharani
no i dont htink its a good idea as google usualy ask did you mean'....' and everytime that happens to me i click on the right spelling
