Spell check

    Shawn-

Why is it that none of the forums I frequent have a spell check function? I would think that this feature would be used more than any other.

I always find myself double checking my spelling using another source like copy and paste to email to ensure I have spelled everything right.

    Thank you!

Beats me... they just don't come with it I guess. I'm just happy to have a web browser that checks my spelling as I type.

Maybe thats what I need then, what browser do you use?

Maybe there is a spelling hack out there somewhere.

You can get a new Mac for $799 if you want (an eMac).

Go snowboarding as often as I can. Really itching to go so I can take the Hummer. :)

What do I need money for?

I was planning on stealing your box, just like the guy that used to work for me stole my boxes when I was gone from the office.

Twice within a year he and his crackhead brother broke into the warehouse when I was at home.

Get cameras installed, that is the moral of the story.

If I had cameras I would have had them both in jail the first time.

I got his brother put back in the joint the second time by calling his Probation office. :D

Because they are database and/or resources hogs. I had one installed on my forum for a while until following a question on another forum and a reply by Dodger I checked to see what it was doing and uninstalled it:

There are two choices for forum spellcheckers -- (1) you can use an offsite one like Nutzy's SpellingCow, where you link to a site that houses the spellchecker, but that of course is slow for anyone with a slow internet connection; or (2) you can use a local one resident on your server which uses your database... that added about 8.5 megs to my database on installation and that was before anyone started adding words to it...

It would be a nice addition, I agree, but it's not worth what it costs the forum to have it.

If one is really worried about it you can just cut and paste your post, take it to your word processor, clean the spelling errors up, cut and paste it back to the forum.

    I do it everyday.

Or just create your post in the word processor and copy and paste it.

Both ways work, I do not think folks think you are stupid if you leave spelling errors (some do), but they may think you are lazy if you post a lot and never run spell checks.

You only make grave errors when you come back from Pub DR 7 and above.

SE, you should always post your DR after your pub visits so we can excuse you for your errors.

In addition you should always post the times (local time) so us North Americans understand how late it is when you make your "After Pub Visit Posts".

    :) :D

I think that is a good idea...

That way - I will keep reminding myself of what time it is, so I know when I should go to bed.

I want a computer like Shawn has, he says his G5 browser checks spelling as he types, all this time I thought he was a genius.

Some folks can bluff their way through life

I know hey! As soon as I read that Shawn's browser can do that, I wanted one too. That's an awesome feature!

How about not using words you can't spell? ;)

Or, if you must, just keep a dictionary next to your computer. Seems easier then cutting/pasting into and out of a word doc.

A dictionary would be more practical then all that cutting and pasting. :)

On a bad day, that could leave a guy with just "the" and maybe "huh?"...

Also, the problem sometimes isn't the spelling but the typing...
