    Hey all

    Ive got a question.
My friend got pulled over on the highway going 101mph. LIve in the USA. the speed limit is 65 on the highway. The cop who pulled him over gave him a court summons but didnt arrest him. He's a minor. What should he expect for a punishment? happened in maine or new hampshire

    1. There was probably a fine on the ticket.
    2. That much over the limit, and they usually don't let you take drivers class. Which means, the ticket and speed will be reported to his insurance. That is where the real penalty comes.

His only real problem should be monetary.

Do people get arrested for speeding tickets? I've had several friends get speeding tickets, and like your friend, they get a court summons and they are obligated to report to court on the appointed date. That's where the judge will tell your friend the fine he's expected to pay and anything else he needs to do.

Now, if he DOESN'T show up to court, that's another story entirely.

No real penalty other than Monitary.

Unusually you can go to the court ahead of that date and pay the fine ahead of time if it's only a monetary fine and is listed on the ticket, I do believe.

However, always ask for the badge number of the cop, and try to memorize their face. If the cop isn't there on that date, you can sometimes get out of the ticket.

Ticket for a hefty fine, depending on the judge there could be a suspension of license, and probably 5 or 6 points on the license which will make insurance a mess!

Reckless driving and something like 8 points on the license. It will end up being costly as his insurance will go up from some time.

And yes, you can be arrested. It varies from state to state. If the speed limit was 65, he might need to be doing 105 to get arrested. But, check your state statutes to be sure.
