Speed cameras...

    Hi,

Speed cameras, hidden speed cameras, nightmare for anyone these days.

People in the UK, even people who are not under 25, speed, it is too easy, and these days cars are designed to go faster, without using more fuel, and without the sound.

Unfortunately, the amount of speed cameras have increased as well, even in many 30 and 40 zones, which prove a nightmare whenever i am driving, however a specific one is causing problems.

Around 20 miles away from where i live, is a speed camera which is a total problem for everyone. There is a part of the road which changes from 4 lanes (2 either side) with a central reservation, to 3 lanes without a central reservation, into a massive dip westbound. (1 lane westbound, 2 lanes eastbound)

It is also the county border. There are 2 speed cameras 100 yards away from each other, one facing eastbound, once facing westbound.

The area is a "national speed limit" area, however nobody knows whether it is a 50 or a 60 mph zone because there are no signs telling us.

It is around about here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=...213,-5.343089&spn=0.002952,0.010042&z=17&om=1

It is referred to as the "camborne dip".

But....still....WHAT IS THE SPEED LIMIT THERE?!??!??!??!? IS IT 50 or 60???

Apart from being annoying, half of us don't even know the speed at "national speed limit" cameras. I don't know, and i don't know how to find out.

I'm glad they are not used around here where I live in the US, if they were put in I could see people going crazy (including myself haha).

Try calling your local authorities and asking about the speed. As far as the speed cameras, they have been common in many cities here in the U.S. for quite a while.

There are 2 local authorities, one speed camera is in Carrick District Council and one in Penwith District Council. I have to make 2 phone calls to find out the information.

But, they are planning to merge all 5 councils together to make unitary party governing the whole of cornwall.

    It is confusing stuff....

It's an A-class road so the National Speed Limit is 60 mph. No grey areas.
Incidentally speed cameras aren't the responsibility of the District Councils but rather Cornwall County Council and Devon & Cornwall Police Authority.

Let's call them what they are, spy cameras. Nothing to do with speeding

You know more than what i do. Funny enough, the eastbound camera currently has a bin bag over it.

    Is a single-carriageway a 50 or 60 zone?

    Rob

If the camera catches you speeding, then they send you a fixed fine and points on your licence.

A single carriageway A-road (and B road for that matter) is a 60 mph zone.

Sheet? The road running parallel to the south of that road is a B-road with a national speed limit sign, and i am leaning on bends at 40mph.
