I am just wondering, how do you guys go about building a website from scratch, I mean from buying a domain. Obviously you get your site indexed, but then what? Because it is unlikely that anyone will want to exchange links with a PR0 website, so what do you do? I have been trying to get my sites off the ground by buying links first, and then once it shows PR trying to exchange links. (also releasing a press release when it is still PR0) Anyway, just wondering about the specifics. Pete
Having a high pr shouldn't be your main goal. I have websites with no pr that make me thousands of dollar per month. You should be focusing more on the content of your websites and your marketing scheme. Why not try adwords or exchange links with sites that have similar content.
Well, that's not really a specific question but rather a totally general one The best trick to jumpstart your site is probably to have very high quality or unique content, so that people will link to it themselves without requiring a backlink.
I agree completely with lunatic. I've heard over and over that if you don't enjoy your content then your site will fail. While this obviously isn't completely true, it sure helps when you like what you're doing...just like any job.
PR's role is much diminished. Its just hyped by people with high PR sites so they can sell the links. Look for relevance.
The Google Adwords program is the best and fastest way to start getting some targeted traffic to your website. That is, provided your website is targeted for a specific niche. For only a few cents per visitor (and you can specify your cost per click limit according to your budget), you can start seeing some targeted visitors who can be your potential customers within days. Perhaps it was luck but I had a campaign last week which brought me a $96.75 profit from the first visitor alone as my product sells for $97 and the visitor cost me only 25 cents. The more focused your website and your product is, the more focused your keywords are and the more attractive your Google Adwords ads are, the more profits you'll see from this method. Of course, you'll also have to invest some time and effort into making sure your sales copy is effective. A smart and fast way to do this is to literally 'copy' another sales letter that sells a product similar to your own and you do your own modifications, editing and re-designing to it, keeping those elements which you feel help attract the visitor to become a customer.
