Specific Niche Search Engine

Im thinking about creating a search engine aimed at a specific subject. I was thinking about making one for a site called "Neopets". Obviousely, it would be named like NeoSearch.com (yes i know that is taken xD), so people would know that it is a specific search engine. It would return neo-related sites when someone searches. Anyone know of any search engines similar to one like this? Im trying to get some ideas =/.

Sounds like you want to start a Pet Engine, but that's been done before by a few others, and you won't beat them.

Examples of why they own the market are:

    http://www.petdirectory.com.au/ (10,893 links in Google)

    http://www.petplanet.co.uk/ (16,090 links in Google)

The 2 above pet sites appear to be the leaders..

    http://www.ukpets.co.uk/ukp/index.php (7 links in Google) ??????

Others copied the idea and will fail if they haven't already. You will not beat petdirectory.com.au !!!!.

The top 2 resources for pets have a load of links, yet the copycat effort has only 7! Proves that copying already established websites is stupid.

    Find another idea........

Are you planning on using a custom script or just setting up one of those Google Customer Search websites? The overall concept sounds like a longshot but you never know.

Virtual? that will be very expensive to produce, at least many thousands I'd say. So something where people can create a pet and take care of it - nice idea, but was done by tamagotchi.com/ years ago, and you won't beat them.

All they have to do is see your virtual pet website and bring out a bigger and better one, and it's all over for you.

    Good luck.

Your tips guide will be manually edited to detail and focus on the hundreds of pets present in the animal kingdom, great idea. Included in this great concept is the following:

    Waste your time
Be put out of the market
Develop stage 1 RSI - hmmmm - nice........
    Lose your money
Waste even more time and money using crap ideas getting it launched
Spend more time on forums, listen to bad advice and lose more money and time.
Move to stage 2 RSI - oh dear now you're health is fucked!
Keep hitting forums until you realise the secrets don't exist, never existed and never will.
Invent another website in the hope this will save you - IT WON'T
Waste more time and money on another crap idea
Finally ending up on forums, as a lifetime member handing out Guru, crap advice yourself.

You do not have the skills, money, time or expertise to do this. Do somethng simple instead that won't break you and be original.

Don't make that mistake, that others are now crying over

If you're going to create an engine, then do it properly and make it a hub of information.

I don't think the virtual pets route is a large enough idea for a search engine myself, and wouldn't touch it with a cattle prod. Not for related neo-pets products, you are making this too niche.
