The Nicaraguan leader also accused the Spanish King of intervention in his country's elections.

Chavez is not a dictator. He's been elected twice.

LOL, he's not a dictator?? Please explain to me why he is now trying to basically pass a law that takes away his peoples right to vote? He wants to pass a law that says the term of his presidency will never expire and he can't be overthrown by the government or be voted out. Sounds like a dictator to me....

He also is shutting down ANY TV station in his country that airs anything negative about him, or doesn't allow him complete control of their programming and what they show about him. Censorship of public opinion and free speech. Sounds like a dictator to me.....

I am not, if you misunderstood, people of Venezuela. Otherwise he wouldnt be elected.

    2 Firegirl:

Who cares if he is? Who are we to dictate what political system should be in other country? Why noone hates China then? You know why? Cos its powerful, and everyone would be scared to death to say it. Only countries like Iraq, etc. can face the democratic judgement ;)

Venezuela is a 'banana replublic' that has replaced the bananas with oil

Hugo Chávez was elected President in 1998, after serving jail time for a coup attempt in 1992. Ten years later he is changing the laws to become 'President for Life' and change his name to Fidel Chavez

For dictators in the banana republics, Coup attempts are like the New Hampshire primary.

Chavez is a socialist of the old order (USSR). I myself have my socialist bent but he takes the cake. As for him being elected, it is because he runs the show down there. Check out any of the many biographies about him on the web and you will see that he pulls the strings of the elections as well as any GWB could do. Is he good or evil? Well as stupid of a question as that is the answer really lies in what happens to Venezuala after he dies. If his socialist reform works after he is gone he did well if it all goes to hell in a handbasket then he was another socialist dictator hiding behind "popularity" which as web designers we all know can be manufactured. Either way I don't think the Spanish king did anything wrong telling him to shut up when he is obviously a propagandist.
In his defense all I can say is "don't hate the player, hate the game."

You mean Chavez will succeed where Mao Zedong, Cubans and North Koreans failed? :p

History repeats itself. Marxism almost 'succeeds' in a way, you can bet in Venezuela almost every citizen will be equally poor in two decades.... except Communist Party members.

    :)

Sean Penn in real life obviously is the character he played in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". At least he appears to have the same IQ as Spicoli.

Sheehan, I've seen that before.. I grew up around that kind of nuts.. I can tell you she is most certainly bi-polar and schizophrenic.

I guess that is why both get along with Chavez so well... That and I hear he is quite well endowed..:rolleyes::rolleyes:
