I believe that some gits find in their way to Digital Point for spamming and advertising their websites. Almost 3 or more I have reported today of spammers. They have only 1 post and that is his/her website advertising. Poor Babies seeking traffic and sales Have you guys noticed?
There is no doubt there are a lot of spammers...Part of the territory of having a popular forum. Luckily, Mods are always on top of it
We try to but we do need those reports so keep pumping them in. You'd be surprised at how many we ban for spamming and how many infractions we hand out a day.
haha. I bet. If I alone reported 3 spams to wipe out today..... how many all the people might be reporting. By the way, how many bad post reports do you mods actually get in a day. I bet that your moderator panel will be full of reports daily
I usually report about 7 posts on avg. per day. And all the posts aredealt by the MODS in minutes. Majorly Shannon(Smyrl) and TOPS30 deals with these Reported posts.
Spammers are not welcome anywhere in the world. How could they survive here? No way!! YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!!
But I love those spammers (seem to be the ones selling phones) that cut and paste these long scrolling spams. Yep, fact of life with any forum, especially a huge famous one like DP. Spammers love to do drive-bys. Never see them again. Then there are the not quite, but almost, pretty close, toeing the line, members who can not yet post in the BST forums who post their wares in another forum.
spam threads are awesome. you can say anything you want in them, cuz you know it'll be deleted in a few seconds anyways. I love replying to the cell phone ones
And you got my name wrong Taken care of now, though there's a difference between spamming and just not knowing what's going on (yet). There seems to be a dedicated core of DP vigilantes (you kow who you are) who indeed report many violations a day, which is very helpful. Keep them coming, it's a small effort for you but a great help to us. Some tips: - Never quote a spammer, it will make their links go live. And there's no use in posting anyway because your posts will be deleted along with their thread. - FWD Spam PMs to a Mod so we can see what's going on rather then just assuming you're talking the truth. We need some proof in most cases. It's not very nice to post PMs publicly if it turned out not to be spam so only do that if you're 100% sure. - Give n00bs some subtle hints about the rules without being nasty (Fryman). "You're not really supposed to do this and that here on DP, see FAQ but this should answer your question..." - sounds nice and is often effective Everybody was a n00b once so they do need some guidance, no matter how simple our rules and FAQ are. Most of you had a crack of the whip in yuor early days here probably, remember that. They look up to a lot of you with your green bars and thousands of posts so help them along the way and educate them where you can. Lead by example like most of you already do (couple of exceptions ). - Remember that criticizing is easy but every human being appreciates praise. So don't just point out bad stuff, also praise good stuff and give credit where it is due. It'll make this a very happy place with birds and bees and colourful flowers - Behave! Don't get too wound up in GC, it's not good for your health and it doesn't make you any money whatsoever. - As far as reporting 'insults' - keep in mind there's such a thing as freedom of speech. Just because it hurts you personally does not necessarily mean it's an insult - it could be you who has a low treshold so please only report clear cut cases - we get to roll our eyes a few times a week with such reports - Have fun! (Dunno why I started typing all this but anyways...)
Oh my god. I never faced any cell phone spam thread. Can someone please PM me when there is any such? By the way, in which board do they appear the most? I love replying at spamming threads... i love critisizing no life people
What actually can he do there? Just delete the thread and BAN the user? This will just ruin DP I think he is doing correct by just telling them to read the FAQ's and if they repeat spamming, then the action is taken.
Now there are lacking something. I would like to add something to it. Whenever you see a Spam thread and the poster has only 1 or 2 posts done, then it is not a noob but a spammer who has come here with wrong intentions. A noob who spams is usually by mistake, or just got a little attached to getting his/her site promoted and he will definitely post more because his intentions are general and fine, something thats not wrong. So, identifying a noob and a spammer is the main thing ands its very easy too. Just my 10 cents I never said ban? did I? And I didnt go that serious man. Just was having fun. By the way, I have another idea, just the mod can edit the post saying read the rules before you post like an idiot? This will be more interesting.. haha.
Yes but there are newbies who got all excited because they read one of us earns 5 figures with AdSense so they literally can't wait. They jump in asking about their own site, which isn't very nice to do on your first post, but that doesn't make them a spammer yet. Yes they dropped a link and yes they were selfish but with a few correctional words of advice they might well turn into a great asset to the forum later on. The one you reported earlier is such an example IMO. They're bad first posts but that doesn't make them spammers.
No, but maybe we'll dream about you devin... And I find myself at times giving a warning instead of a full blown infraction if the member has often stood out of the crowd in a positive way. So your reward could be 'getting off easy' when you screw up yourself.
I somewhat agree and anyways, you maybe speaking correct. But as far I have seen they only turn out to have come once. And yeah, banning them isnt a solution. They might should get a PM saying about Read rules etc. There should be a pre written message that can be PMed lol. Anyways, I shall try myself to ask them read rules and dont advertise or spam Thanks
Like sending them a PM when they join which is already practised in other forums and it helps. In the PM, give all warnings like "Spam will make you permanently banned" etc. This can decrease spam atleast to a small extent.
BTW - sarcasm in combination with newbies isn't a crime here... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=111226
