You may not need contact info online, but I will not buy from a site for which there is no contact info.

One alternative is to make info graphic so bot's can't scavange.

Buy trend micro PC-Cilin 2007, it has a stop spam function for both outlook and outlook express. After installing it, it recognizes at least 95% of spams and move it directly to spam folder. I hardly see any spam these days. :)

The problem with those type of programs is that they sometimes filter to much. You might be not seeing some important emails as well :p

You could try using a gmail account. It's very effective at stopping spam.

    There are several solutions including:

    - Display email address in Javascript

    - Display email address in an image which you can use http://services.nexodyne.com/email/ for.

    - PHP contact form (CAPCHA recommenced)

I have found on my site that all too many of the email harvesters pick up on the javascript document write game. I used it for awhile but it has not helped in ages.

I've started using PHP redirects instead of mailto: to handle emails. Whether or not it stops the bots I don't know, but it seems to be working pretty well.

    use strong captchas!

I had thousands of spam comments on my site www.postsimple.com

so now i installed a strong captcha - letters, numbers, different colors, fonts, sizes, places etc..
So since then no spam so far :)

While images may work for a while, there is more and more text recognition software out there. You might try a scan of your e-mail adress in your own print handwriting, this usually makes it harder for text recognition software to get it right. If you don't care to do that, try creating an image with a sans font, they are harder for text converters to read, but easier on the human eye in most cases.

I removed email contact information from my "commercial" website a couple of years ago. I include a proper "Contact Us" form without any type of captcha. There are links to the form on very page.

I do not use captche on the form because I want to lessen the annoyance for people trying to contact us.

In recent weeks, I have started work on a spam filter for the form. It is not yet good/big enough to share. And, it is perl based. I need to develop something which works in both perl and PHP before sharing.

We also provide a proper mail address and phone number on the contact information at the website. This is necessary to maintain our ability to accept credit card payment.

I view that as the minimum necessary. Actually, my installation of windows XP was buggered up by a beta release of IE 7. Whenever I click on an email address, it launches instances of iexplorer until all available memory is used up. Therefore, i no longer want to be encouraged to click on an email address . . . just give me a contact form!

Some spam gangs employ people for this purpose. They provide flawless OCR. Do not forget, around one billion people live in extreme poverty . . . the kind where North America's homeless are well off by comparison. The average annual income in China is US1,740.00 and in India US$720.00. There are a lot of people who can be hired for very little money all over the world!

yes, most regular captchas can be broken quite easily and there're even free scripts found online that can do it.
But strong captchas, like the ones used in blogspot registration for example are much more difficult to break. So use similar captchas and you can feel safe :)

besides that you can add some stuff to your post/email form to make it more difficult to identify by spam bots

One danger with online forms is injection vulnerability. I pulled my form offline for that reason. My new years resolution should include working on security for form!

you should have two seperate accounts so that if you're contact one does get a lot of spam, it wont mess up your personal one.
