Spammer using my email for return address

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by R0CKY, Apr 23, 2008.

A spammer is using my email address in the "return address" for all his spam emails.

That means all the bounced emails due to invalid recipients are coming back to me, to the tune of 1 every 15 seconds - that's over 5000 a day.

I have outlook rule made up to delete all such bounced messages, but it is still a bit of a burden to say the least.

Is there anything I can do?

It's the main e-mail I use for my website, hundreds of people/forums logins etc have it, I can't imagine dropping it and starting with a new e-mail :(

It is a world wide problem, solution is nil I guess unless someone, somewhere has the authority of making SPF universal for every email server.

Hotmail is great to have implemented SPF but there are far too many providers who have not implemented it yet to make it really effective.

I blocked all hotmail e mails to my address because that is where most of my spam mail originated from.

Wow, that's never happened to me. How did that come to happen to you? I don't publish my email address on the internet though, so that's probably how I've come to avoid that problem.

Not much you can do. Change your email address and don't post it on your website.

A lot of emails purportedly from Hotmail are faked. Hotmail are doing quite a good job blocking spams.

hotmail doesnt block anything for me, as in a good way; most junk mails go to junk folders, extreme spams already got filtered out and I can still receive emails form many providers.

This is a bloody nightmare. This morning #I collected my overnight mail and there was 961 bounced e-mails.

And to rub salt in my wounds, another website I am about to launch that isn't even advertised anywhere yet, is getting spam via it's comment form!

I kid you not, for the hastle this is going to cost me, someone is going to pay one way or another, and I'm not talking about writing to my local MP.

I keep checking my Main email every now and then from my cell or Laptop.
There an average of 10/20 email at that period. If I don't get any mail when I login then I become little upset you know
    :D
