Spam! :(

So on my blog i keep ketting comments that are just pure spam, like porn and stuff.

Is there a reason my site is getting this...or is it just something i have to deal with?

 

Do you have askimet installed?

 

My wordpress sites get nothing but spam comments. I simply removed commenting from Wordpress because I was tired of pre-screening them every day.

Totally right on, install and say good bye to spam and you won't even know you got it.

When I first started blogging I use to take it personally and thought It was my content. But then quickly learned almost everyone gets crazy spam comments.

I don't get it why you don't activate akishmet .... I mean it's the very first thing I do ... and it's already inserted when installing wordpress platform. If that doesn't work i use captcha in comments like you can see on my personal blog daniel five (dot) com

 

We had to many issues with Akismet with false positives and not catching the same spam from the same ip address over and over again. There's also censorship issues with it as well. Have to admit that I'm amazed people still use it.

+1 for using Typepad's version: http://antispam.typepad.com/ We use it on our WordPress Multiuser installs and have no problems with it. It's also 100% free where Akismet you have to pay for if it's on a "professional" site.

 

pay for akishmet ? i just said it comes with wordpress installation, which is free too, and btw you should just have a wordpress account to insert the verification on plugin activation.

i've heard about typepad but unfortunately never used it, I like testing new stuff so I'll review it I guess.

If you're running a general personal blog, it's free but if you;re making money from it, you may have to pay to stay legit.

 

your blog is probably "do follow" so that every link on your comments will be counted from Google... you may change it to "no follow" to stop spam comments or you should remove link section on comments. You can also try Akismet, its a the spam plugin for wordress.

 

I get lots of spam comments too. You should install Akismet. I heard it is really good. I need to install it too.

yeah, those spam comments are really annoying, try check your blog footer too!
From my experince, my heavily spammed blog is not only spammed but also hacked, those spammers changed the footer to their site and I need to reinstall wordpress because of that..

 

I thought it was Askimet as well!

Lol... this might help you in remembering this in future. Akismet stands for Automattic Kismet (source wikipedia).

Try WP-Spam Free and adjust your moderation settings.

 

Akismet is no longer supported according to the plugin pages on wordpress, infact the owner states they will hand over the plugin to anyone who wants to take it
