On my site, in the COOP links there is a spam site appearing with the following information:

    Title: fitness equipment
    URL: http://www.fitnessequipmentlinks.com

This site has 8000+ pages listed in google and all are SPAM!
What can we do so that such spam sites do not come across the COOP network?

It just tries to increase the count of pages indexed in google.

By going the same way, I (or anyone) can easily get a weight of 50K plus in no time.

Question is... should they be allowed in the coop?

    Obviously not.

Question is... what can be done to stop such sites entering the coop? or is there anything being done already?

    Sorry, but I disagree...

Yes it should be allowed in...

I know of LOTS of sites that "Artificially" increase page counts... It doesn't mean that they should be kicked out...

What about DMOZ and Wikipedia clones... Should they be kicked out too for "Artificially" increasing page counts?

    I think not.

    Why worry?

Google is very good at de-index such web pages :)

Great! So Google will de-index it, and you will be linking to a banned site...

De-index isn't the same thing as ban. They are more likely to drop most of their duplicate pages giving them nearly no weight.
