Look for an ReCaptcha modification for wordpress. I have seen a couple of wordpress sites running this mod, so I know its out there.

Some of the new spam bots are able to break the old Captcha phrase. So if you want your blog comments to be spam free, use the ReCaptcha modification. Besides ReCaptcha, I recommend making members sign up before they can post comments.

unless you have a reason for listing trackbacks, take those off too. The typical trick is to use them to generate a free link back to a spam page from your blog.

I would do the opposite! At least in my case, trackbacks were the ones driving 99% of the spam on my blogs. Comments can be controlled by adding a simple Captcha.
