It showed up in my Spam folder, but this kinda thing worries me that others might get suckered into something. BTW- the domain in question is at GoDaddy.

First off, check if it is actually true! Login to your domain providers account, and check if there really are 90 days left. Good providers will warn/update you on the status of your domain.
If the letter is found to be a lie, DON'T follow the instructions and pay them, simply delete it.
Note: A lot of non-spam e-Mails are received in the spam folder, so in some cases it doesn't mean a thing ;)

Yeah, Gmail is usually pretty good at filtering spam which is one reason I keep using it.. I would never renew thru a 3rd party to begin with.. that'd be kinda dumb IMO.

It looks spammish and scammish. It's easy for anyone to find out when a domain expires.

Simple.. if you are registered at GoDaddy then GoDaddy will send you a reminder.

Anyone else is just out to scam you, so only renew through your account at GD.

Definitely a potential scam, although it won't be if you don't "play along". :p

Typical "domain slamming" thing, getting a renewal notice/solicitation email. Do
leave it in the spam folder.

they want 70.00 a year, scam spam and or ripoff, whatever it is, just ignore them. This reminds me of the letters I get in the mail to register my .com with them for 24.95 a year.

Sure buddy, I paid godaddy 7 bucks for a year, but let me switch to you for 4 times that.
