Spam mailers forging my domain as sender

About a week ago I started getting around 50 emails a day, the likes of "Message returned to sender" and "Email not delivered". The emails that were apparently attempted to be sent were bulk spam, viagra substitutes, porn links, etc. The senders address given (obviously spoofed) was , X being a random string of 5-10 letters, like , - you get the picture.

I'm worried that this might blacklist my domain name with some email servers or otherwise harm it. I'm at a complete loss as to what to do and I'd appreciate any kind of advice.

    roseplant,

If you are using cpanel, take out the default mail address. Spammers will always be able to spoof domain names...you can't get in trouble for this- it happens to everyone. Make sure that any email that does not come to your specific address is sent to :blackhole.

    This site may help: http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/Changing_your_default_email_address.htm

If you are not using cpanel, look around for an option that allows you to drop messages that don't use exact addresses.

    Good luck!

Stop using email service for your domain, else ensure you have only 1 email id for your domain
As email address can be faked quite easily , not much you can do to prevent it.

This has happened a few times to me in the past.
I actually got an FBI agent involved in one incident. (I'm in the USA). The FBI agent figured it out, but said he couldn't open a case and go after the spammer because it didn't cause me more than x thousands of dollars. (I think it was 25K).
That really irked me, because it seems to me that only someone who is rich or some business which is rich would have 25K worth of business, and be provided with assistance. I don't do 25K worth of business, so I don't rate their investigation against fraud and am on my own to go after them.
