MySpace.com has filed a lawsuit against the self-proclaimed "Spam King" for allegedly blasting the portal with spam through the use of compromised user accounts... In the past this guy has had trouble with Microsoft... Not sure whether to be angry at him or wonder what the hell goes on in a spammers mind... And then the big companies, cash in on settlements but the users remain the losers with the spam!
No idea, but heres some more background info on him... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Richter Never even heard of the guy before today
I wonder what he spammed about... I mean if he is getting sued for millions here and there then this must also be bringing in some serious cash for him otherwise = not very good business model
Honestly, the major corporations PASS money to spammers through shadow corporations. Google spams. Microsoft spams. MySpace spams. YouTube spams. They're all using shadow corporations as fronts.
Personal information. Google is a political entity, regardless of what they say on the surface, and so they will use their shadow influence as Microsoft has to influence politics. Google is keeping tabs on all of us. Their money spent in YouTube, orkut, MySpace, and other similar sites is a plain indication that they're gathering information on all of us through third parties.
Seems like in the past he managed to settle disputes without too many losses. If MySpace really wants this guy, they will get him.
In 2005, Richter agreed to pay $7 million in a settlement with Microsoft Corp. over spam messages. He also settled a similar lawsuit with then-New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer alleging Richter made millions of dollars from unsolicited e-mails. I guess this must put this guy at the 'top of the pile' of money earners from Spam
Undoubtedly, this guy actually WORKS for MySpace, who is only launching this as an attempt to say they're fighting Spam, when 20% of their profiles are invalid and 36% are compromised
this was in another thread the other day....somebody linked it to the full article CNET I beleive...I couldn't find the thread but here's the article
Got a mail from CPAempire have a look at it . January 26, 2006 Dear Affiliates and Advertisers: As most of you are aware, MySpace issued a press release in which they made allegations against Scott Richter (“Richter either phished MySpace accounts himself or acquired a list of phished accounts to launch spam campaignsâ€). To date, we have not been served with a Complaint nor have we seen a copy of the Complaint. As you can imagine, it is difficult to intelligently respond to a press release. However, we want you to know that both Scott and the Company absolutely and unequivocally believe that the allegations are untrue and without merit. In fact, months ago we were contacted by MySpace and were asked to cooperate with them in identifying affiliates who were not following MySpace terms of use. We fully cooperated with MySpace and immediately terminated a few affiliates who had been identified by MySpace as violating their terms of use, as well as ours. We pledged our continuing cooperation to MySpace and never heard from them again. We find it extremely coincidental that the press release was issued just as the media was reporting that MySpace was served with lawsuits alleging misconduct on their part which led to the physical harm of their members. With that said, we ask for your continuing support while we wait to find out what the issues are in this case. As we believe we did not do anything improper, we will vigorously defend ourselves and let the justice system be the final fact finder, as it should. From 2001 to 2006 we had our fair share of adversity and during that same time period we had five record breaking years in a row. And if the beginning of this year is any indicator for the rest of 2007, the success will continue for us and you, our valued affiliates and advertisers. However, one record we do not plan on breaking is honoring our contractual and financial commitments. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this or any other matter. Thank you. Cordially, Steven S. Richter President and General Counsel
Yeah, ok there buddy. Google cares about money, not whether or not I'm going to the movies with Stacey later.
