    Askimet. It is there under plugin (admin panel). You just need to activate it.

    never a fan of just using that i like using my simple CAPTCHA where you can make your own anti spam words that need to be entered first. This way you can keep them small but difficult enough to avoid bots:

    //gr1
    fgfhs
    tgwra
    3rt5t5

    or be mean and add a "drghthdhdirrgrdhisisifs1112223344//////" before they can submit a comment, which would be funny but probably put them off commenting at all XD.

    OR, allow the spam but then get (forgot the name sorry) the plugin that removes backlinks from comments withut deleating them :p free comments !! yay, long as they make sense not scrapped rubbish

    I hesitate to use CAPTCHA's as it can sometimes make people feel uncomfortable to post a comment or maybe they look at it and just leave. Whereas a form without a CAPTCHA iis a little more welcoming.

    as long as you keep them simple you should be be fine 3 l/n max , i.e mat, me1
    if someone having to type in 3 letters makes them not want to comment 1 of 3 things are happening:

    1: Your blog post was just not compelling enough to warrent the 2 second typing of 3 letters
    2: What they were going to submit was so useless and un relevent 3 letters made them turn away
    3: The visitor never wanted to comment in the first place

    :p If i find a good post and i like it, heck ill register to make a comment on it, it comes down to if the visitor is actualy loyal or not;

    New visitors are unlikly to comment, if your content is gppd they will become repeate visitors (or returning) and upon returning they eventualy become loyal visitors these visit your blog oftern to read and make comments, these are the people the comment box is made for, people who care about what you write enough to have thier own say, if 3 letters needing to be typed stops them then they obviously wernt a "good" visitor. If your just trying to soak up money then guess your not really aiming for high quality content since you would never get click. only by mistake.
