Anyone have ANY clue why people are sending garbled emails with gibberish in them? They have zero items for sale, and make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I get zillions of these every day, and they have attachments in them usually (not always) and the funny thing is, that they are not trying to sell anything. Thoughts/ comments?
2 reasons that I know of, probably more. 1) Someone is testing a database and has nothing of value to send 2) Someone is testing to see if they can, just because they can - this happens more then you would think, virus writers are the main culprits
Well, if spammer manages to put virus on million computers, and each computer sends 100 emails, that's 100 million spam messages. If only 0.000001% people click the messages/spend money, that's still worth it.
The attachments will almost certainly have viruses embedded. They may also be testing the validity of your address (ie, if you reply then they know they've got a valid email), or they could be testing their bulk sender, or a new type of email to try and get past spam filters. Lastly of course, they might be sending you emails using a character set that your computer cannot display. There are all sorts of reasons, but the important thing is - don't reply!
thanks for the responses.. I never reply to these trash emails, and usually, like Im sure you guys do, dont open them since the message subj are always lame. Trouble is, I get 100's every day. Need to cancel the addresses and create new ones I guess..
