Spam Control

The latest in spam seems to be the bot, that joins a forum, then compiles the user list and later sends out Spam Pm's. I know we prolly have a control on the number of pm's that can be sent in a given time span.

I think it would be better, if say only new people with at least 10 posts, get the right to send out pm's.

This has been gone over before and basically the conclusion was that everybody should have rights to pM because a lot of people with 0 posts seem to do business around here, buying and selling.

keep in mind when combating this problem that: people come to this forum because it's one of the few webmaster forums that isn't overburdened with rules.

I implore you to heed this advice.... The answer lies with fewer rules, not more. And if that means we all have to put up with a little crap?..... BIG DEAL, it's a small price to pay for a truly "open market".

I wasn't talking about any user in specific, it was just a suggestion considering that people are now turning to that trick bigtime.

    Seiya

I don't know how many people are doing business here with zero posts, but I doubt anyone at DP would do business with people who are not active on the forum or have some kind of history.

Was just a suggestion, coz that trick is going to be exploited big time in the coming months.

I know the lesser the rules the better. But having a small limit like 10 posts is not going to hurt anyone (My Assumption). I don't believe the crap would be little by any means. Having a small limit like 10 posts would not make DP a "Closed or Restricted Market".

Ok, I got a red rep saying don't scream like a kid.. where was it that I was screaming?

Suggestions is an open place to suggest (The purpose of this sub forum). Some kids just like spreading bad karama... ** shakes head **

There are already anti-spam mechanisms in place, but if you get a specific example of a user/spambot that wasn't already caught, please let us know.

People who do business over PM with members that have zero posts should have their heads examined.

I realize the necessity of anti-spam strategies but, the best protection is to use a common sense.

Plus, spam PMs are not a big issue at the moment (I haven't got any since God knows when). Otherwise we would be seeing much more lame*ss threads with titles like "Got a PM from a member with zero posts", "Spam alert! Receiving offers via PM from new members" etc.
