Quite often we all see spam posts appearing on Digital Point, which is .. well .. normal, but I'm more interested in what those spammers are really expecting or trying to achieve? For example, blast that we had today: Those posts make 0 sense. What's the point?
The only valid point I see for spammers spamming (from a spammer's point of view) is a DOS attack. Last night was a good example, the Spy was filled with spam from one spammer denying us valid users from using the Spy function here. And what I saw was PURE garbage with less than 1% of actual real words. Your image is too small for me to see what it says (and it won't enlarge), but it does look like mostly real words.
Beats me because we generally get to them quite quickly. Some start with garbage and then promote universities. Others promote a whatsapp address. and it's 3pm in NZ so it's now spam o'clock
You should see the madness that's going on right now in General Marketing / General Business. Someone is having fun. You guys will have to have mods on duty 24/7.
Sometimes I think spammers do what they do just to make us webmasters angry. It wasn't so bad when they were just bots as phpBB has a Q&A spam counter measure that works pretty good. Unless the spammer is not a bot but a human who knows English and gets past the verification then unleashes his/her bot. But 200+ spam messages all from the same account make it easy to delete.
Fact is a fact. This wasn't really about DP, mods or .. anything DP related at all. I was just wondering what the hell is it that those spammers are trying to achieve. Some university names w/o any links, some WhatsApp addresses (as per @sarahk) and other weird stuff that just doesn't make any sense. Ok, if all of that would be in English and an offer of some kind (be it Bitcoins, counterfeit or anything else illegal that is usually being offered in a way like that), fine, but it is not.
