    Don't use email.
Never post email addresses to websites in any format, including javascript and/or pictures.
Only use temporary email addresses when submitting to directories.
Never join free websites which demand an email address.
Don't use computers, cell phones, PDAs, pods.
Never register a domain name unless using someone else's email address.
Never give out email addresses to offline and/or online public or private enterprises.
If you must use email . . . always read messages in plain text and NEVER open attachments, especially from people you know.

I just delete spam. My service provider is AOL and I can filter spam if I wish. I can also report spam so that the person doesn't spam me again, however I get sick of losing emails that AOL decides is spam for me and doesn't even put in my spam folder. I have removed all controls so that I can choose what to delete.
I do have a big problem with people trying to spam my website. I've made it so that no-one can post a link to their website anywhere on my pages and any updates are vetted by me first. People can sign the guestbook but they can't put a website link on the page. They still try to spam the site in spite of messages sayng they can't. Some people never know when they are beat and when to give up but it's their time they're wasting and not mine.
