Spam and WordPress

    Hi,

    Just wondering...

The last few months, I received a lot of spam on my WordPress blog. These messages are usually blocked my Akismet, so I'm lucky.

    But I was wondering:

    1) Why suddenly so much spam?

    2) Is there a way to receive less spam? I know it sounds stupid but I hate going through the stuff everyday in case a real comment gets lost in the junk (and it happens).

    Thanks for your input!

    (1) I guess somehow somewhere the spam bots found you or your site is lucky to be included into one of the spammer's list

    (2) Delete away your Blog? :) Just joking, no way I guess. Unless there are concerted efforts world wide to combat spams, they will still come and will still increase year after year.....

Option #2 is... NOT an option! ;-)

Oh well, I guess I'm flattered. I'm on a spammer's fav. list. Woo hoo.

1.) Depending on your niche or your attracted traffic, there may or may not be spam bots clogging up your site
2.) Install a captcha on it. Use recaptcha for best results : http://recaptcha.net/

If you leave a comment on WordPress.org site and specify your blog URL, you'll inevitably see increase of spam comment pretty soon. Traceback will have the same effect (i.e. when you add a link to the official WordPress.org blog in your post).

Akismet is generally very good with its detection.

I've yet to find a genuine comment that got tagged as spam.

Alright guys, thanks for the input. At least, I know I'm not alone!

This spam thing is crazy when you think of it... I agree, Akismet is great and blocks most of it. Yet, it's a pain...

I also face this problem but now i usually delete all the comments caught by akismet rather than going through them.
