North Korea isn't going to attack. They are trying to extort money from the Japan, South Korea and the US which they can use for hookers and booze.

Haha, yeah I've heard about some of Kimmy's funny habits. Apparently he has had aeroplanes hijacked just so he can have famous Asian popstars, and the like, at his "pleasure palace" :p

Yeah bogart, another amazing post from you. Do you believe the shit you type? The whole reason of this is to extort money for booze and hookers? Seriously half the time you post i think you're fucked up on drugs.

Why do you follow people around to insult them? Bogart's right. Do you know the habits of Kim Jong Il? Like I said, he has even hijacked planes in order to "have" something he wants. He's a nutcase.

Besides, what's wrong with drugs? :)

Because if i wanted to, i can get booze and hookers without extorting the 2nd biggest economy on the planet, then i'm sure the leader of North Korea can.

I think you've missed the intention of Bogart's post... humour isn't your strongest trait, is it?

Why did you come into this thread being a dipshit? NK wanting money is so hard to believe? It seems like you actually got pissed off at the fact that others believe NK is doing this for money. Pull that stick out of your ass, bro.

    Fucking limey.

The hookers and booze are what keeps Kim Jong-Il in power. Btw, who is your favorite madman, Ahmenijhad or Kim Jong-Il? Yeah, I know you would move to Iran or North Korea but you not allowed to fly

It would be good to have a serious discussion of the likelihood of war on the Korean pen.

There is no doubt that a nuclear armed North Korea is a worst nightmare scenario and one that a right thinking president should not allow. N.Korea is a regime that has been caught red handed on more than one occasion smuggling drugs and weapons - that problem with N.Korea having the bomb is that eventually they will give it to other like groups and you will have nuclear bombs let off in major western cities - not a pretty picture and one that makes 9/11 look like a picnic.

Why doesn't the U.S. just go in and get the job done? Firstly because it is currently stretched in Iraq and Afghanistan and secondly it doesn't want to get into a war with China.

Looking at the situation though I can't believe China would risk its beneficial economic relation with the U.S. and that huge trade surplus that is helping China develop into the modern country it desires to be to save a small backward country that is currently a thorn in its side. Allowing the U.S., Japan and S.Korea to sought out N.Korea in the short term would be difficult for China - a bunch of foreign troops close to its doorstep and allowing a fellow "communist" regime to fall would have some short term dramas - but long term - they lose a drain on their economy, the USA loses an excuse for a continued military present in the Korean Pen. - no more 38th parallel - no more reason for the U.S. to station 20,000 troops so close to China. S.Korea will spent the next 50 years concentrating on fixing up N.Korea from third world status to modern status and Japan has an even greater economic competitor in a Unified Korea. All in all long term, the removal of N.Korea is the bonus for China. N.Korea probably has a better chance of getting Russia to come to her aid than China - Your thoughts?!

N.Korea certainly has the hardware to make a go of a short term war - but without a strategic partner i.e. China or Russia - A U.S. lead coalition would finish the war in the space of months, if not even weeks. Unlike Iraq and Afghanistan I think the N.Koreans would be more than happy to be freed from the dictatorship that they currently live under. The thing for the U.S. to be successful and avoid Seoul getting nuked for N.Korea is rapid and heavy firepower - hit fast, by surprise and hold nothing back.

alstar, I agree wiht you thoughts about China. I think, even though they would loose NK, they would benefit from it quite a bit. I think they realize this too. Chinese rarely go to NK anymore because it is so crappy. China is ALWAYS loosing money to them.

For the US to succeed they must establish air supperiority right off the bat. They must destroy any known nuke/missile sites with B-2 (stay away from AA). They must take out the AA's. And they must carpet bomb the entire DMZ. That all has to be done in the space of about 6-12 hours (at the absolute most) to ensure a swift victory and Seoul not becoming a glass parkin lot.

Bogart, that might be your best photo shop yet. Regarding NK, China is the key. When they set off the first nuke, China decided to enforce the existing embargos at the chinese borders and via navel vessels and it was truly amazing to see how fast NK came into compliance and shut down their reactor(which has since reopened). Frankly, you can put whatever sanctions you want on NK and they will be meaningless unless China decides to enforce them.

Edit: This is the problem with sanctions and repeat violators like Iran, Iraq, and NK. You put the sanctions in place, and they are effective at first, but then they become a burden to enforce and sympathy builds. Eventually you wind up with the same old criminal state, just a bit more desperate for lack of goods and trade, doing the same old crap they were doing before. Regime change is the only real answer and nobody has the stomach for it.

I thought it was Bogart

The real problem is when you put sanctions, etc. on a country, with the threat of escalation, etc. and then don't...it becomes a moot point. Same thing with all the resolutions the UN makes.

No one wants to enforce resolutions that get passed by the UN with threats of invasion, etc. Then, when a country does invade, everyone screams foul (Iraq).

I agree with Bogat that N. Korea isn't going to attack S. Korea, Japan. They just want their vote will be heard by big guys. N. Korea should understand they won't be a winner if they start a stupid war vs any country around.
