Slightly random, but techies tend to be all the same -

:: Any ideas on a good sound effects creator software that can be used for a theatre production?

    Thanks

I've never heard of a sound effects CREATOR... but if you're looking for free sound effects, one great place is http://flashkit.com (just be sure to get the ones that say "freeware" if you're looking to not pay).

If you have a bit of cash, I heavily recommend http://sounddogs.com . Their stuff has been used in big budget movies for years, but they don't cost a lot. I've bought effects for as little as $5 and music for as little as $50.

You have two ways to create sound effects - synthesis and recording/sampling from the world... to combine edit you can freeware Audacity, or commercial Adobe Audition, Soundforge. They are support DX/VST technology so you can apply many external and quality effects to manipulate sound and make it unique.

It may be overkill but Pro Tools is a favorite application of many.
