Ok. First of all , i am not an expert in pagerank, just trying to understand it. I search in google with the term "current page url in php". The very first result suggested by google is "http://webcheatsheet.com/php/get_current_page_url.php" which has a page rank of 0 (my google toolbar say so). The second result was " http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/54227.html " which has page rank 1. Now, I was thinking that pagerank decide the place in a search result. then how a page of pagerank 0 comes before another of pagerank 1? And if, page rank doesn't matter in search result, then what is pagerank all about? why it matters? Thanks.
Rankings are determined by many, many factors...I think the list is about 200 things that Google looks at for ranking a site. If rankings were as simple as PR only, things would be much too easy to manipulate. PageRank is a calculation based on the PageRank of your backlinks. High quality backlinks do help rankings a lot. So websites with those high quality backlinks often have high rankings. For competitive terms they still need good onpage seo.
Do u mean that the pagerank is a measurement of backlink only? And as u say , 200 factors , what are some others?
first of all the KY you searched for is not very competitive at all, so anyone who optimises for that phrase will probably get to the top, regardless of page rank (the number one site you foudn probably didn't optimise it, it probably just mentions it a few times). PR isn't just a measurement of backlinks PR, but it is far and away the most important factor - if you want to do well, get a site with a high PR to link to a relevant page on your site, from a relevant piece of content on theirs, with the KW in the link anchor text - good luck!
PR is measure for site importance by google. Google will consider other factor also, like, content uniqueness, density of keywords in page, page pagerank, site pagerank and many more....
