sorry for this dumb question but how does pagerank work? and how do people determine what "PR" category they are in?
PageRank is a function of Google that measures the quality & popularity of a website on a scale of 0 to10. Basicly, each indexed link is like a positive vote for your site, the more votes (links) you have pointing to your website, the higher PR (popularity) you will have.
Page rank might be a concern if looking at link exchangesbut I wouldnt focus on it. In the last 3 months I have developed 3 different types of sites within a niche, for all 3 I have bought 1 link for upto $20 to help my indexing Most sites now have 30K+ uniques, after the last update still no PR, quite happy working in a niche and still supposingly in the "sandbox" For Goog, content really is king (when I say unqiue I mean different content, unqiue, updated etc..) If you build a site and work on it, whether PR0 or 6 in a sandbox (or now called Trust rank by many) you can still do well
you are rigth . this is a dump question . if you try to search on dp forums . you will find many threads about this subject
Adding to it : Pagerank really doesnt matter unless you are into link selling biz . Also , Pr 8 is better than Pr 4 < just in case if you still havnt realised > . Good Luck
every here is right, get links that will get you traffic not links that will increase your PR. Plus the PR that you see in the toolbar is outdated. your real PR is updated everyday but the Toolbar PR is only update once every 3 to 4 months.
Yes and no. The higher Pr you have, the more important google sees you in the rankings. But the search results will show the most relevant pages in oder, not by page rank. If you do some research for a keyword you want, you can see that a PR5 can be placed lower than a PR3 result. IMO, dont worry too much about page rank.
